Polysomnogram Explained

Bay Sleep Clinic utilizes State-of-the-art digital amplifiers to collect data from patients during sleep.  These amplifiers collects up to 32 digital and 8 analog channels from the patient.

This data is collected over several hours of overnight sleep and scored by our sleep technicians using Sandman Analysis software.  Sleep stages for each 30 second epoch are identified and episodes of sleep disorder are noted.  As the final step, our sleep specialist medical doctor analyzes the scored data and provides final diagnostic recommendation.

The example below shows a patient with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) episode with arousal.  Note the flattening of the flow signal accompanied by change in the EEG (brain) signal and a drop in blood oxygen saturation (SAO2 signal) .  Snoring (green signal) is evident.
